What is the Procurement Process for Cashews?

The journey of a cashew nut begins with the procurement process. Cashews are harvested from cashew trees and then undergo a series of steps to ensure they are ready for consumption. The nuts are carefully extracted from the cashew apple and dried to remove excess moisture.

How are Cashews Sized and Graded?

Once the cashews are dried, they are sorted based on their size and quality. Cashews are graded based on the number of kernels per pound. The higher the number, the smaller the cashew. The most common sizes include W180, W210, W240, W320, and SW.

What are the Final Sizes and Grades of Cashews?

The final sizes of cashews are determined by the number of kernels per pound. For example, W180 cashews have approximately 180 kernels per pound, making them larger in size compared to W320 cashews, which have around 320 kernels per pound. SW cashews, on the other hand, are split cashews without the kernel attached.

Cashews are also graded based on their quality, color, and shape. The grades range from Grade A to Grade D, with Grade A being the highest quality and Grade D being the lowest.
